Dr. Abubaker talk on "Compassion in Addiction" & the Opioid Epidemic

Opioid addiction is coming to public consciousness as an epidemic in our country.  Dr. Omar Abubaker is one of the most passionate advocates for rethinking the way health care providers use these drugs, and for compassionate treatment for those who become addicted. Dr. Abubaker was recently featured in STAT, a newsletter for those in the health professions, discussing this crisis.

He will speak at St. Stephen's November 9 on "Compassion in Addiction." Since losing his son to opioid addiction in 2014, this VCU faculty member has made it his mission to learn everything he can about addiction. He will discuss this tragic epidemic, changing the way pain management is approached and the importance of compassion when dealing with those struggling with addiction. This talk is designed to provide an understanding of the importance of compassion in addiction, not only to those touched by substance abuse, but those with little knowledge of it.
